After facing intense online backlash over his recent comments, Nollywood actor Aremu Afolayan has received backing from fellow actress Biodun Okeowo.
The controversy began when a video circulated showing Afolayan praising President Bola Tinubu for assisting his business during a period when the UAE had restricted visas for Nigerians. Many viewers criticized his remarks, arguing they seemed insensitive to the ongoing challenges ordinary citizens are experiencing.
Afolayan later issued a public apology, explaining that his comments were misinterpreted and acknowledging the serious issues facing Nigeria. Despite this, the criticism continued for some time.
Biodun Okeowo weighed in, urging the public to look past the controversy and recognize his sincere remorse. She noted that while Afolayan often displays a playful demeanor, his apology revealed a more reflective and responsible side.
Okeowo emphasized that he had taken accountability for the impact of his words and called on Nigerians to ease up on the harsh criticism and personal attacks.
“Aremu is sincerely sorry. Initially, when I saw his apology video, I wanted to laugh because he’s naturally fun, but by the end, I saw a man who was truly remorseful and sober.
‘He understands that what he said did not sit well with many of us, and he takes responsibility. Yoruba ni ti elese bati mo ese e ni ese kii pe lori ikunle, Ẹ̀dákùn Ẹ̀dáríjì!
According to him, there was no intention to hurt Nigerians, but he acknowledges and apologises that it came across that way.
He has reflected deeply and recognises the weight of his words. Please let’s forgive and stop the curses! Mofi Ikunle abiyamo Bewa
