“Salary Increased To N109K, Yet We Pay For Our Uniforms And Gear”- Soldier Reveals

  • Soldier Soja Boy discussed financial and personal challenges faced while serving in the military.
  • He highlighted the struggle of living on a modest salary and the need to purchase essential military gear personally.
  • Extended deployments often exceed their original duration, adding to the stress.

Soldier Soja Boy recently opened up about the financial and personal challenges he encounters while serving in the military. He described the difficulty of managing on a modest salary, paying for essential military gear out of his own pocket, and handling extended deployments that often surpass their original duration.

Speaking on the HonestBunch podcast, he revealed, “My last salary was 109k. Before that, it was 51k plus an additional 20k, totaling 71k, and only last year did it rise to 109k.”

When asked how he copes with limited pay, Soja Boy admitted, “The struggle is real. Aside from the salary, there’s nothing extra.”

He also highlighted the costs soldiers personally bear, explaining, “They don’t provide us uniforms. A uniform alone costs 55k, boots are 60k, and we buy these ourselves. The same goes for helmets and bulletproof vests.”

He added, “If you see a soldier fully equipped, it’s usually because of a special visit from the governor or an official event they provide it temporarily just for show.”

Reflecting on his time in active deployment, Soja Boy shared, “I spent 4 years and 9 months in Maiduguri, even though we were told it would be 2 years. I lost a friend there,” emphasizing the emotional and personal toll of serving in dangerous zones.
