RMAFC Proposes Pay Rise for Tinubu, Shettima, Senators and Ministers, Says Current Salaries “Not Right”

• The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has announced plans to increase the salaries of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, ministers, and senators.

• Chairman Mohammed Shehu argued that the current structure, unchanged since 2008, is “untenable and unrealistic,” noting it is unfair that agency heads earn far more than the president and attorney-general.

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) says it plans to increase the salaries of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, senators, and ministers.

Chairman Mohammed Shehu said in Abuja that the current salary structure, unchanged since 2008, is “untenable and unrealistic” given rising responsibilities and economic challenges.

He said: “You cannot pay the President of Nigeria N1.5m monthly with a population of over 200 million people and expect it to be taken seriously.

“You pay either a CBN governor or the DG ten times more than you pay the President. That is just not right. Or you pay him [the head of an agency] twenty times higher than the Attorney-General of the Federation. That is absolutely not right.”
