Rivers Police arrest officers for assault!ng motorist who refused to give them N1m bribe

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested officers from its anti-kidnapping unit for allegedly assaulting a man, Cletus Emmanuel Onyekachi.

In a viral video, Onyekachi said he and his brother were returning from a car wash when officers stopped them along Igbo Ichie road. After checking his papers, they noted his tinted glass permit had expired and demanded he drive to the station.

He claimed the officers requested ₦1 million for his release, but he refused, offering only ₦20,000. The officers allegedly became violent when they saw him trying to make a call, assaulting him, his brother, a friend, and a female passenger.

Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the officers have been arrested and detained.

In other news….. The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral “wanted” notice about Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo, calling it fake and misleading.

The poster, which carried her photo with the inscription “SPECIAL POLICE WANTED,” falsely claimed she was wanted by the IGP’s Monitoring Unit, sparking mixed reactions online.

The police further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, urging Nigerians to always verify news through the NPF’s official channels.

The statement read:

“FAKE NEWS ALERT! This ‘WANTED’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force. It is false, misleading & was never posted on any official NPF platform.”

“Disregard & stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels,” the statement added.
