Jiti Ogunye, a public affairs analyst and attorney has deemed the presentation of the Rivers State budget to four members of the House Assembly ridiculous
Recall that four members of the state House of Assembly, led by Edison Ehie, were given the 2024 Appropriations Bill by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, according to Gistlover.
In an interview with Channels TV, Ogunye expressed more curiosity on how four legislators would determine the seats of 27 members who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
President Bola Tinubu met on Monday with Governor Fubara, Peter Odili, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, and other Rivers stakeholders in the wake of the political crisis in the state.
A truce was struck to end the state’s political crisis at the conclusion of the meeting.
Speaking on the crisis in Rivers State, Ogunye said, “It is absurd for any governor to present a budget before three or four members of the House. How can four members declare the seat of 27 members vacant?
“I am insistent that a political solution should be found. That does not mean we are betraying the law. I am saying that too often, issues that are not supposed to be brought to the court are brought to court. The courts are being misused by politicians.”
After meeting with President Tinubu on Monday, Ogunye declared that he was impressed by the resolution that the two opposing leaders had reached.
