The Rivers State Police Command has categorically dismissed reports and a viral video alleging a failed invasion attempt by Fulani herdsmen repelled by Ijaw youths.
The controversial footage, which went viral on social media platforms Tuesday, November 25, purported to show a confrontation between herdsmen and local youths in a Rivers community.
In a swift reaction, Command Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko condemned the narrative as baseless and a calculated attempt to incite unnecessary alarm.
Iringe-Koko stated: “The claims are entirely false, misleading, and designed to incite panic among the public.” She added: “The Command emphasizes that there have been no incidents or reports of Fulani herdsmen attacks in any part of Rivers State. This fabricated narrative is a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to undermine the prevailing peace and stability in the State.”
The Police spokesperson urged residents to disregard the misinformation and warned against sharing unverified content that could heighten ethnic tensions.
Assuring the public of their safety, SP Iringe-Koko said the Command is working in synergy with other security agencies and has deployed robust security measures, including operational patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, to maintain law and order across the state.
