Results Will Be Transmitted from Polling Units in Kogi Governorship Election — INEC confirm

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reveal that the results of the Kogi State governorship election on November 11 will be sent electronically straight from polling places to its server.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kogi, Prof. Gabriel Longpet, shared this at a media event in Abuja.

This new approach, according to him, aims to “eliminate rigging, electoral fraud, and other irregularities” and make sure that the voting process is transparent and credible.

The security issues that arose during the 2019 election have been looked into and resolved, according to Longpet. By promising a secure voting environment, he urged voters to turn out.

We will transmit the Kogi election electronically, he said. Numerous violations occur between the polling stations and the collation center; however, these violations will not happen if the results are transmitted electronically.

According to the electoral acts, any results figures on form EC8A that appeared to have been altered cannot be permitted. Results won’t need to be altered, mutilated, or hijacked in the first place if they are sent to the IREV electronically.

The Kogi guber election in 2023 “will be by the poll and not by the gun,” the state REC reaffirmed, assuring that the commission would take all necessary steps to ensure that votes were counted and that the victor would be chosen by the general public.

We only have one message for you, and that message is to come out and use your franchise, he declared.

The Independent Press Center’s Executive Director, Lanre Arogundade, stated that the two-day media round table was a result of the center’s conscious efforts to train journalists and forge alliances and partnerships with other election actors that would be used to improve the democratic climate in Kogi.

Arogundade exhorted the media to represent a variety of viewpoints in the upcoming November governorship election in the State.

The International Press Centre (IPC), Lagos, is the lead implementing partner of Component 4 (Support to Media) of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria EUSDGN (11) Project, which is taking place at Treasures Suites and Conferences, Abuja.

The media training program’s executive director urged reporters to provide “fair and balanced” coverage of the upcoming Kogi State Governorship Election. The purpose of the training is to get the media ready to support the public in making informed decisions.

The Director emphasized the role of the media in influencing public opinion and encouraging voter turnout. He urged journalists to uphold “professionalism and objectivity” and to inform the public of where and how to cast their ballots.

He further stated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must answer to the media for conducting a legitimate election. A daily news report on political activity leading up to the election was also encouraged by him.

25 journalists from Kogi State’s print, online, and electronic media outlets are participating in the training program.
