- Senator Remi Tinubu has urged Nigerians to show more respect and support for their leaders, condemning public bullying and excessive criticism while encouraging constructive engagement and accountability.

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has reacted to the growing attention surrounding United States President Donald Trump’s recognition at the 74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C., using the moment to call on Nigerians to show greater respect and support for their leaders.
In a post shared on her official Facebook page, Tinubu pointed out what she described as a disconnect between how Nigerian leaders are often respected and celebrated internationally and how they are treated at home.
According to her, while leaders receive honour and recognition abroad, they frequently face criticism, ridicule, and hostility within Nigeria, largely driven by political narratives and amplified on social media.
The First Lady expressed concern over what she termed a rising culture of public bullying, mockery, and online shaming targeted at national figures. She warned that such behaviour weakens unity and undermines efforts toward national development.
In her words: “Most of our leaders are highly respected and honored abroad, yet many Nigerians fail to value what they have because of hatred and the narratives planted in their minds by political paymasters, which have also hardened their hearts.
They bully these leaders, speak ill of them, demean them, curse them, and even seize upon their mistakes to drag them across social media, ridiculing and mocking them publicly – Nigeria is built on love, unity, and collective effort toward shared success.
Let us come together to support our respected leaders and work hand in hand with them to make our country great.”
