President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the immediate recruitment of 200 exceptional National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members into the federal civil service, honoring their remarkable service from 2020 to 2023.
Speaking at the NYSC Honours Award Ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday via a representative, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha the President also announced a ₦250,000 cash reward for each award recipient.
In a compassionate move, 10 physically challenged ex-corps members who sustained injuries or disabilities during their service were granted automatic federal employment, with Tinubu assuring them that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
“All awardees, including those living with disabilities, will receive scholarships for postgraduate studies in any Nigerian university,” the President added.
Tinubu praised the honorees for their patriotism, service, and integrity, describing them as shining examples of the youth Nigeria needs for a better future.
He directed the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and the Federal Civil Service Commission to immediately commence the employment process for the awardees.
Highlighting his administration’s youth-focused agenda, the President reiterated that his policies are driven by skills development, technology, education, and job creation.
“Youth are at the heart of our national development strategy,” he emphasized, urging young Nigerians to stay hopeful and not allow themselves to be used to destabilize the nation.

- Nunaya Polycarp (2020 Batch B, Adamawa; served in Kwara)
- Okpogbo Alvin Chinedu (2021 Batch A, Imo; served in Cross River)
- Dr. Ugwa Obinna Mark (2023 Batch B, Abia; served in Cross River)
- Rabiu Quadri Mayokun (2023 Batch C, Osun; served in Rivers)
Female honorees include:
- Akase Pati Ence Nguwasen (2021 Batch A, Benue; served in Gombe)
- Igwe Anne Chikaodi (2023 Batch C, Enugu; served in Sokoto)
NYSC & Youth Ministry Praise the Initiative
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, applauded Tinubu’s unwavering support for youth, citing the recent increase of the NYSC monthly allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 as a key effort to reduce financial pressure.
“This isn’t just politics it’s a reflection of the immense value placed on youth,” Olawande stated, noting that many young people now occupy leadership roles in government.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Akinyemi Nafiu, hailed the recognition and described corps members as the backbone of national development, especially for their efforts in underserved communities.
He highlighted their roles in areas such as healthcare, voter education, ICT, and more.
“In 2025, over 6,300 medical corps members, including 2,300 doctors, provided free healthcare to more than 4 million rural Nigerians,” he noted.
He also emphasized the NYSC’s skills acquisition programme, which trains over 250,000 corps members annually in market-relevant and tech-based skills.
In a touching tribute, Nafiu honored four corps members who died in active service, calling them heroes of unity and sacrifice.
Urging the awardees to remain symbols of national pride, he said:
“You may no longer wear khaki, but you now wear something greater—the confidence of a nation. Continue to serve with pride and represent the hope of a brighter Nigeria.”
