On Friday morning, Aiza Nwosu, a prominent Awka comedy figure and public information presenter, was involved in an accident.
According to reports, the collision also affected three spectators who were waiting to catch buses at the famed Aroma crossroads.
Nwosu is well-known in Awka, Anambra State’s capital, where he goes about in vans equipped with several loudspeakers and plays loud music.
He occasionally parks his car on the roadside, plays loud music, and dances to it.
He was going towards the Government House from Aroma when his vehicle collided with passengers waiting for buses at the crossroads.
An eyewitness stated the incident was caused by a brake failure, and the people he hit, including a tricycle rider, were taken to the hospital.
When our correspondent arrived at the scene of the accident, authorities from the Awka Capital Territory Development Agency, ACTDA, were spotted destroying part of the vehicle’s music equipment to prevent it from being destroyed.
Onlookers at the site declined to talk with journalists, but one ACTDA official who did speak merely stated that he could not explain how the disaster occurred.
“We just got here. We were in the office when we were called to move fast about this emergency. I cannot explain how it happened.
“We know that Aiza is alive and has been moved to hospital for treatment,” he said.
The road was littered with broken windshields from Aiza’s vehicle, and at the time of filling this story, the officials were making arrangements to tow the crashed vehicle to their office.
