- According to her, some brides cry in pain while makeup is being applied, but still go ahead with the ceremony.

A viral conversation on social media has exposed how some Nigerian brides suffer abuse even on their wedding day.
A makeup artist shared that she has had to cover bruises on crying brides, while a photographer revealed a groom once slapped his bride during a shoot.
A viral tweet by user @CP_Ogamba has sparked a wave of conversation online. She highlighted the alarming number of domestic violence (DV) victims, including brides, whose bruises, scars, and black eyes are carefully covered by makeup artists on their wedding day.
“Makeup artist will be applying makeup, bride will be crying in pain,” she wrote, emphasizing how normalized and hidden abuse has become — even on such a significant day.
In response, a wedding photographer identified as @choboiiii shared his own harrowing experience:
“To think I experienced this just last month. The groom literally slapped the bride during their personal shoot at the hotel — just because she asked him to wait a bit for more shots.”
He described how, in shock, he simply turned back to his camera and acted like he didn’t see anything, calling it a “family issue.”
Many Nigerians are now calling for more awareness and support for victims who are forced to smile through pain just to keep up appearances.
