Former Newcastle midfielder Cheick Tiote’s Beijing Enterprises team-mates paid their respects on Tuesday to the Ivory Coast star, who died in hospital last week after collapsing during a training session.
The 30-year-old’s family flew to China after Tiote’s tragic death and attended the ceremony.
They will accompany his body back to the Ivory Coast on Wednesday, where a private funeral service will be held for family, including 50 brothers and sisters, and friends.
Tiote’s loved ones and friends are still waiting for official confirmation of the cause of the former Anderlecht, FC Twente and Newcastle midfielder’s death.
Fans also paid their respects outside the memorial venue, with an impressive R.I.P banner showing Tiote in a range of kits from his colourful career.
