Veteran entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has shared a light-hearted story about an unexpected visit from Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, Charly Boy explained in pidgin that Obi showed up at his home carrying a large “Ghana-Must-Go” bag.
“When I came downstairs to meet him, I noticed this big Ghana-Must-Go bag at the entrance of my sitting room,” he wrote. “I kept wondering what could be inside.”
The two men reportedly chatted for nearly two hours about Nigeria, politics, and family matters. Before leaving, Obi pointed to the bag and said, “See small thing I bring for you.” Charly Boy thanked him without checking the contents.
Curiosity later got the better of him. “As soon as Obi left, I peeped inside,” he recounted. “My people, you won’t believe what I found three bottles of roasted groundnuts, plenty of alligator pepper, kola nuts, pawpaw, oranges, agara, mangoes, bananas, and more. All hand-picked by Obi himself.”
Charly Boy said he couldn’t help but laugh and later phoned Obi to express his appreciation. According to him, Obi replied, “Senior, I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one na my hand pick.”
A longtime supporter of Obi and a prominent member of the Obidient movement, Charly Boy campaigned vigorously for the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential race.
