  • The government aims to clarify the situation surrounding the allegations.

The Edo State Government has addressed claims of an alleged assassination attempt on former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, during his recent visit to the state.

Kassim Afegbua, Edo State Commissioner for Information, emphasized that Obi should have notified the state authorities before entering Edo.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Afegbua clarified that previous statements about Obi’s visits had been misunderstood.

“People misunderstood Governor Okpebholo’s remark that Peter Obi should inform the state government before coming to Edo. Since Obi is a high-profile political figure, it would have been proper courtesy to notify us,” he said.

The Commissioner further urged the public not to exaggerate the situation, suggesting the incident may be linked to internal conflicts within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“This matter should be viewed in the context of ADC internal affairs essentially one faction against another within the party,” he added.

The reported attack on Obi and other ADC leaders has drawn reactions nationwide, with calls for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
