PDP Zones 2027 Presidency to South

  • The decision was ratified at the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.
  • This move is seen as bolstering Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde’s influence, potentially heightening tensions with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, reversing its 2023 open-ticket approach. The decision was ratified at the party’s 101st National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The NEC also announced that the party’s elective national convention will be held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15–16, 2025, rather than Kano. This move is seen as bolstering Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde’s influence, potentially heightening tensions with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Acting National Chairman Iliya Damagum and BoT Chair Adolphus Wabara both emphasized unity and the return of defectors. The NEC retained the current zoning structure for national offices and directed legal action to reclaim seats of lawmakers who defected from the PDP.

The next NEC meeting is set for August 25.
