Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a respected figure in the Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed confidence in the party’s unity and future, following its recently concluded National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Pearse, who previously served on Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and currently leads the Reset Lagos PDP movement, shared his thoughts during a press briefing on Friday.

The 101st NEC meeting, which ended on Thursday, brought together key leaders to strategize ahead of the 2027 elections. One of the critical resolutions was the scheduling of the party’s national elective convention for November 15–16, to be held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the meeting’s outcome, Pearse dismissed claims of division within the party.

“There’s nothing wrong with the PDP,” he said. “Unlike many other parties, the PDP is built on a solid foundation and functions with structure and stability.”

He likened party disagreements to issues within a marriage, suggesting that disagreements are natural and can be resolved without abandoning the party.

“Leaving this party in haste could lead to worse situations elsewhere. Sometimes, jumping ship is not the solution,” he added.

Pearse also commended the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy, contrasting it with other parties he claimed prioritize appointments over democratic elections.

He was optimistic about the PDP’s future, saying the NEC meeting had energized the party’s base:

“The PDP is gaining momentum. We’re already seeing a comeback. Those exiting the party are making a mistake they’re disoriented.”

A key development from the meeting was the decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, which Pearse hailed as a strategic move to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.

Commenting on the recent defection of Atiku Abubakar and others to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Pearse dismissed the move as short-sighted.

“Sure, Atiku might win the ADC ticket, but he doesn’t stand a chance in the general election under that platform. He’s miscalculating once again and damaging his political legacy,” he said.

Pearse further questioned the ADC’s strength, casting doubt on its capacity to serve as a serious contender in the 2027 race.

With ongoing internal restructuring and fresh direction from the NEC, Pearse affirmed that the PDP is ready to reclaim its leadership role in Nigerian politics.
