In other news… A Nigerian lady has stirred conversation online after recounting an unusual encounter with a stranger during a solo outing, who later reached out to ask for financial help.

Nigerian Lifestyle Magazine

The experience, shared on Facebook by Tonia Umerah, began as a casual meeting but eventually left her feeling uneasy and exploited.

In her post, Tonia explained that she was out alone last month when another woman approached her, curious to know if she had company. Upon learning she was by herself, the stranger asked to join her table, and Tonia agreed.

The pair reportedly hit it off immediately, engaging in deep conversations that felt like catching up with a longtime friend. They spent several hours together at the venue, enjoying each other’s company until around 10 p.m.

As the evening ended, the newcomer tried to book a Bolt ride home. While the app initially showed a fare of ₦8,000, the driver allegedly requested ₦13,000 due to the late hour. Noticing the woman’s distress, Tonia offered to drive her home herself. She left at 10:30 p.m., dropped her off by 10:50 p.m., and returned home shortly afterward.

Despite exchanging contact information, the stranger did not reach out to confirm she had arrived safely. Concerned, Tonia contacted her to make sure she was okay, and after confirming her safety, their communication stopped.

Weeks later, the same woman reportedly called again, giving a long explanation before asking Tonia to lend her ₦50,000. Frustrated, Tonia shared the incident online, highlighting her disappointment and surprise at the request.

“Last month, I went out on a solo date and a lady asked me if I was with someone, I replied no and she asked to join my table and I accepted.

Our vibes clicked and we started having conversations like people who have known each other for long.

We stayed there till 10pm and she started booking bolt that will take her home. She saw 8k on bolt app but when she called the bolt driver, he said 13k because it was already late and she was really worried and lamenting.

I asked her where her location is and offered to go drop her with my car. She was so happy and said she didn’t know I have a car.

We left by 10:30pm and I dropped her at her house by 10:50pm and got back to my house around 11:10pm.

When I came back home, I had my shower and I checked my phone and saw she didn’t even call me to be sure I got back home which I find weird because we exchanged contacts.

I’m a grown adult lady and I don’t like playing mind games so I called her to be sure she is okay and safe because sometimes you may be playing mind games without knowing what someone may be going through.

She told me she got home safe and thanked me. I replied okay, good night.

Since then she has never called to check up on me but guess what?

She called me today with plenty stories and begged me to borrow her 50k.

Is this how people behave?

God abeg o.”
