The Oyo State Government has announced its preparedness to adopt the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), aligning with the Federal Government’s push toward digital examinations.
Speaking at a meeting on Friday, Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, revealed that the state intends to purchase more than 60,000 laptops for public senior secondary schools, following directives from Governor Seyi Makinde.
“Governor Makinde has instructed that the financial requirements for acquiring the laptops be fully detailed,” Olayiwola said.
He commended WAEC for its proactive measures in addressing issues from the 2025 examinations and reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to preventing exam malpractice and safeguarding school facilities.
WAEC’s Zonal Coordinator and Deputy Registrar, Mr. Waheed Amode, visited the Ministry to acknowledge the state’s support during past exams. He highlighted that registration for the 2026 May/June examinations closed on February 2 and confirmed that the exams would be conducted in both CBT and traditional pen-and-paper formats. Schools intending to participate entirely in CBT must submit official requests.
Amode also issued a strict warning against the use of mobile phones during exams, stressing that breaches could lead to the annulment of an entire school’s results.
Principals and teachers were urged to uphold exam integrity and ensure smooth administration of tests throughout the state.
