Oyemykke Blames Igbos For Rising Anti-Nigerian Sentiments Abroad

  • Oyemykke, has criticized the Igbo community for rising anti-Nigerian sentiments abroad.
  • His comments followed the “Nigerians Must Go” protests in Ghana, which did not specifically target any Nigerian ethnic group.
  • Oyemykke specifically called out the Igbos in his Instagram post, attributing blame to them for the protests.

UK-based influencer Abisoye Olukoya Michael, popularly known as Oyemykke, has blamed the Igbo community for the growing anti-Nigerian sentiments abroad.

The media personality shared his thoughts on Instagram after the recent “Nigerians Must Go” protests in Ghana. While Ghanaian protesters did not directly mention any Nigerian tribe, Oyemykke chose to call out the Igbos by name.

According to him, it is no coincidence that several countries including South Africa, Dubai, Kenya, and now Ghana are clamping down on Nigerians. He argued that repeated complaints from different nations point to a deeper issue.

Oyemykke stated:

“The people of South Africa cannot be complaining about the same thing as the people of Dubai, Kenya, and Ghana. That means there’s something you’re doing wrong.”

He further noted that this is not just a foreign concern, explaining that even within Nigeria, Yoruba citizens express similar sentiments, particularly about the perceived dominance of Igbos in Lagos.

The influencer criticized the narrative that “Lagos belongs to everybody,” issuing a cautionary note:

“You cannot leave your father’s house, come to my father’s house, and try to dominate me… even if you can, don’t rub it in my face.”

While recognizing Igbos for their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, Oyemykke advised them to be more culturally sensitive to their surroundings.

“You’re strong, creative and energetic, but you need to understand the energies around you,” he added.
