The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has come under heavy criticism following revelations that it spent ₦22.282 million on 85 cartons of cream cracker biscuits for its personnel between August and October 2023.
According to reports, the procurement records show questionable spending patterns:
- August 30, 2023 – ₦8.136 million was used to purchase 30 cartons of biscuits for security operations in Yobe State.
- October 4, 2023 – ₦7.073 million was spent on 30 cartons of biscuits for personnel.
- October 4, 2023 (same day) – another ₦7.073 million was allocated for 25 cartons of biscuits under logistics and consumables.
With the breakdown, each carton cost about ₦280,000, sparking heated debates about government spending and accountability.
Public Reactions
Nigerians have flooded social media with sharp criticism and sarcasm:
- Ambiug: “The biscuit is sold in dollars and imported 😂.”
- Nosa: “₦280k for a single carton of biscuits? This is either reckless spending or outright corruption. Nigerians deserve accountability on how public funds are used.”
- Rey: “Wow, biscuits that must come with police escorts, a bulletproof wrapper, and maybe even the Commissioner’s autograph. At ₦280k per carton, I hope they at least crack crime better than they crack teeth.”
- OG KingPikin: “₦280k for one carton of biscuit? 😂. Na the same biscuit wey dey soak for tea till e melt like PDP structure?”
The development has further fueled calls for transparency in government procurement processes, with many Nigerians demanding answers from the authorities.
