“Onu’m juru na ekele” – Lady From late Uma Ukpai’s Village shares his favourite song

A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to pay tribute to the late evangelist, Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, sharing fond memories of his yearly tradition during New Year celebrations.

The lady, identified as Chinyere Uzy, revealed that she hails from the same village as the renowned preacher, describing it as a great honour to come from his hometown.

Taking to Facebook shortly after news of his passing broke, Chinyere expressed deep admiration for the late evangelist, describing him as “a man who lived a life of worship and gratitude.”

According to her, Reverend Uma Ukpai organized a massive crusade in their village every January 1st a tradition that drew people from far and near to celebrate the New Year in God’s presence.

In her words: “Being privileged to come from the same locality as Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, he organizes an annual crusade in the village every 1st of January, bringing us together to worship God. This tradition has been constant since I was born till now. People come back to the village for New Year celebration just to attend this crusade.”

Chinyere also recalled that the late evangelist always sang one particular song at every gathering “Onu’m juru na ekele,” meaning “My mouth is full of praises.”

She wrote: “He is often heard singing ‘Onu’m juru na ekele’ (My mouth is full of praises) at every gathering. A true worshipper of God. A man that knows how to worship God. A heart of gratitude. Rest in Power, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai. You will be greatly missed, Daddy.”

Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed away at the age of 80, was widely known for his powerful crusades and message of faith that inspired millions across Nigeria and beyond. Many Nigerians continue to mourn his passing, describing him as a humble servant of God whose ministry touched countless lives and left an enduring legacy of worship and devotion.
