A bill to establish 33 new Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) has been approved by the Ondo State House of Assembly.
According to Naija News, the bill was successfully passed after its third reading at yesterday’s plenary.
According to the state assembly, the new LCDAs are being established to improve governance, guarantee efficient service delivery, and foster grassroots development in the state.
According to the assembly, the state’s 18 current local government areas will coexist with the new LCDAs.
This platform is aware that the state now has 51 councils after the bill is passed into law.
After further discussion, the bill was sent to the Committee of the Whole House.
The state Surveyor General’s office will play a crucial role in the boundary demarcation process, ensuring that the newly created LCDAs align with existing geographical and cultural factors, according to the deputy speaker who delivered the committee’s report during plenary, Abayomi Akinruntan.
When defining the new LCDAs, he placed emphasis on the residents’ cultural uniformity.
He pointed out that the strategy will aid in preventing conflicts and encouraging peaceful coexistence among the populace.
Then, Ogunlana Christopher seconded a motion by the majority leader of the house, Ogunmolasuyi Oluwole, to enact the legislation.
The governor’s decision to establish the new LCDAs was praised by Ondo Assembly Speaker Oladiji Olamide during the plenary.
He felt confident that the House’s notable observations and recommendations would be implemented as necessary.
The speaker argued that despite the new development, the residents of Ondo state should maintain their commitment to peace and abstain from actions that might lead to conflict.
“Let me make a plea to the good people of Ondo State to maintain their hope, he continued, as the House’s current position is not an end in and of itself but a means to a useful goal.
