By outlawing public kissing and hugs between people of different sexes, wearing skimpy clothing, dyeing one’s hair, getting tattoos, and other indecent appearances, the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has begun the fight against immorality and indecent dressing on campus.
Additionally, it forbade opposite sex students from sitting on each other’s laps and urged them not to wear any clothing or accessories that cover their faces.
Sexually suggestive clothing will no longer be permitted in the school, according to the administration.
These were included in the revised student handbook’s set of conduct and dress codes, which also included prohibitions on micro/mini dresses, backless clothing, transparent clothing, off-the-shoulder clothing, bum shorts, tattered jeans, and dreadlocks for men and women.
The university also forbade sagging pants or knickers for both genders, hair braiding for men, nose, mouth, eye, or extra rings, crop tops or jump caps, tattoos or other permanent markings for men, multicolored braids for women, haircuts with inscriptions, and T-shirts with vulgar writing that promotes immorality or hooliganism, among other things.
It vowed that male students’ hair plaiting or weaving, heavy makeup use, and unkempt or dirty clothing would no longer be tolerated on campus.
Any student found with colored hairstyles, hair braiding for men, or a spangled hairstyle for men will be expelled from the school for two semesters, according to the school, and will also be rusticated from the school for violating any of the dress codes.
It stated that it would expel for two semesters any students found massaging or sitting on the lap of an individual of the opposite sex as well as any students found touching, kissing, or hugging a member of that sex.
The school administration, however, reminded male students that their hair should always be neat and well-combed and should not be colored (unless it is a natural color).
