The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has dismissed claims of genocide in Nigeria, urging anyone making such allegations to provide verifiable evidence.

Speaking at the opening of the Northern Traditional Rulers Assembly Meeting (Kebbi 2025) in Birnin Kebbi, the Sultan insisted that no religious or ethnic group has been targeted for extermination.

“There is no way someone, whether a Muslim or a Christian, can be killed without the knowledge of the traditional rulers of the community where such a person belongs,” he said.

He challenged both local and international groups to present concrete proof of any genocide, emphasizing that such claims are baseless.

Addressing the influence of social media, the Sultan cautioned Nigerians against spreading or believing false information online.

“Most of the information posted on social media is not true. People must verify such information before accepting it as fact,” he stated.

He also urged the Federal Government to take proactive measures to regulate social media, warning that misinformation could endanger national peace and unity.

On the purpose of the gathering, the Sultan said the assembly was aimed at strengthening community collaboration and developing strategies to tackle insecurity across Northern Nigeria.

He commended Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris for hosting the event and appreciated Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa for his presence despite a busy schedule.

Concluding, the Sultan called on Nigerians to pray for the country’s leaders and remain committed to peace, stability, and unity.
