Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has ordered all newly appointed commissioners and board members to wear the “Asiwaju cap”, associated with President Bola Tinubu, during official meetings.
Speaking at the swearing-in of 19 new commissioners and board members on October 14, 2025, in Benin City, he warned:
“I will not forgive any commissioner that is not wearing Tinubu Asiwaju’s cap. If you’re coming to EXCO meeting without the cap, you’re going back.”
“In EXCO, if you are not wearing a suit, and you are wearing a traditional dress, and you come without this Asiwaju cap, you are going back.”
Okpebholo said the appointments were possible through President Tinubu’s support and urged the appointees to view their roles as service, not reward:
“Your nominations did not come as a reward or patronage, but as a call to serve the people of Edo State.”
He added that his administration’s focus is on “practical governance to touch the lives of our people directly”, warning that corruption or actions undermining integrity would not be tolerated.
