“Nnamdi Kanu Was Offered ₦50 Billion”- Portable Sparks Fresh Controversy

  • Controversial singer Portable has sparked reactions regarding Nnamdi Kanu’s sentencing.
  • Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was sentenced to life in prison by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
  • He was convicted on seven terrorism-related charges.

Controversial singer Portable has stirred fresh reactions amid the ongoing tension surrounding Nnamdi Kanu’s sentencing, claiming that the IPOB leader was offered ₦50 billion.

Kanu was recently handed a life sentence by a Federal High Court in Abuja after being convicted on all seven terrorism-related charges. He was first arrested in 2021 and has remained in custody throughout his trial. Alongside the life sentence, the court also issued additional terms of 20 and 5 years on separate counts, all to be served concurrently.

A video circulating online shows Portable alleging that both Kanu and Yoruba rights activist Sunday Igboho were offered ₦50 billion. According to him, Kanu rejected the offer, while Igboho accepted it.

In a new update, Kanu has now been moved from the DSS detention facility in Abuja to a correctional centre in Sokoto State. His lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the relocation through a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Before the court delivered its judgment, Ejimakor and Kanu’s brother, Emmanuel, were arrested during a protest calling for Kanu’s release. The demonstration was led by human-rights advocate Omoyele Sowore, who was also detained and later freed. He was subsequently rearrested over a remark in which he referred to the Inspector General of Police as a “goat.”
