With the introduction of buses fueled by compressed natural gas, Nigerians will pay less for transportation, according to Minister of Finance and Coordinating Economy Wale Edun.
This was said in a statement released by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Stephen Kilebi, on Thursday.
During a town hall meeting in Abuja with the Ministry’s management and workers, Edun made this statement.
According to the statement, the minister asked for the staff’s assistance and support in order to carry out the directives issued to him by the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
It read, “The meeting, which was held at the instance of the minister, was aimed at exchanging views with the management and staff on how best to deliver on the mandate of the Ministry in the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.”
Edun further assured of continued staff welfare for better and more efficient service delivery.
He was also quoted as saying, “Things are going to change and be better, not only for Nigerians but will make the Ministry attain global competitiveness.”
The statement added, “He assured that staff welfare would be given top most consideration to ease their suffering, disclosing that plans were on the way for the provision of Compressed Natural Gas buses to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians as a result of the removal of fuel subsidy, stressing that with CNG buses Nigerians would pay less for transportation.”
A potential solution to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy elimination is to purchase 3,000 20-seater CNG-fueled buses for N100 billion.
The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative was launched by Tinubu in August with the goal of converting 55,000 current PMS-dependent vehicles to CNG and over 11,500 new CNG-enabled vehicles.
Additionally, Tinubu announced in October that Compressed Natural Gas conversion kits will be available soon.
The administration’s dedication to improving public transportation’s accessibility and affordability was emphasized by the president.
