A Nigerian man working in the UK is currently in serious trouble after a comment he made to a white female colleague about her body triggered a disciplinary process at his workplace
According to popular Twitter user, Mufti of Ilorin Online, the man allegedly told his colleague that she was “adding weight” and suggested that if she entered the gym, her shape would make more sense. The woman, clearly upset, reported the comment, saying she felt traumatised by the remarks.
Now, the man is set to face a disciplinary committee on Tuesday, and the situation could cost him his job — and even worse, his stay in the UK. The company reportedly sponsored his work visa, and if his appointment is terminated, he may be forced to return to Nigeria.
Mufti, who shared the story online, expressed deep concern. “All I’m praying for right now is for him to be warned or something, because if they terminate his appointment, he’ll have to leave the UK,” he posted, heartbroken.
To make matters worse, this isn’t the first time the man has found himself in hot water at work. According to Mufti, he previously questioned two lesbian colleagues on how they had a child together, a move that also almost got him in trouble. He was only spared then because the acting director at the time — a fellow Nigerian — intervened on his behalf.
“This guy keeps putting himself in mess,” Mufti added. “I’m just too sad and worried about him, ffs.”
Social media users have since been reacting to the story, with many pointing out the importance of cultural sensitivity and workplace etiquette when living abroad.
