In a video that went viral on X (formerly Twitter), shared by @The Benin Blogger, she revealed that she had reached out to her father for a small amount to get by. He reportedly responded by asking her to pray that people who owed him money would pay him.
Initially, she accepted his explanation but her frustration grew when she later saw him posting receipts in the family group chat, showing payments of ₦50,000 to Saint Mary Catholic Church and ₦60,000 to Winners Chapel.
She expressed her disappointment, saying:
“When you start resenting your parents, people say, ‘He’s still your dad; you’re ungrateful.’”
Her post sparked debates online about parental priorities and fairness. Commenters shared their opinions, with one saying, “Naija parents often spend on church and big family events but overlook small personal needs. I feel her.” Another added, “It’s not just about the money; it’s about care and respect. Kids notice these things.”
The video has gone viral, igniting conversations on parenting, financial priorities, and the delicate balance between respect and emotional neglect. Many young Nigerians have related to the experience of being overlooked at home while witnessing money spent elsewhere.
