Nigerian Chef Shocked as Chinese Client Exposes Fake Goods Culture

  • Nigerian chef Bawalicious shared a revealing exchange with his Chinese client who criticized Nigerians for valuing appearances over authenticity.
  • The client refused to fix or buy items locally, saying he didn’t trust Nigerian products, and exposed how many “brand-new” goods in the country are actually refurbished or fake.

A Nigerian chef, Bawalicious, has shared a sobering encounter with his Chinese client that exposed Nigeria’s growing obsession with fake products and “show-off” culture.

He said the client refused to buy new clothes or repair his iPhone 15 in Nigeria, insisting he’d only do so back in China. When the chef called him stingy, the man laughed and asked the price of his ₦35,000 Louis Vuitton T-shirt, revealing that the same fake shirt costs only ₦5,000 in China.

The client then showed him videos of how refurbished iPhones are repackaged and sold as new, calling Nigerians “too focused on fake life.” He also said many Nigerians travel to China to buy counterfeit goods and sell them at home as originals.

Reflecting on the conversation, the chef admitted it opened his eyes to Nigeria’s counterfeit crisis from fake phones and designer wear to adulterated cosmetics, alcohol, and drugs, which he warned are contributing to rising health problems like kidney failure.

“The issue isn’t the price, It’s selling fake as original and people are paying the price with their health.” he wrote
