International rap star Nicki Minaj has called on fans to show more understanding and patience toward Nigerian artists.
According to GistLover, several Nigerian performers have faced harsh criticism this week. Burna Boy, for instance, was accused of arrogance and ingratitude after joking about wanting “only rich fans.” Similarly, Yemi Alade drew backlash for opposing calls for U.S. intervention in Nigeria’s growing insecurity.
Other celebrities were criticized for appearing “insensitive” to national tragedies, such as the deadly terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State, after sharing social media posts unrelated to these events.
In response to the wave of criticism, Nicki Minaj urged fans to approach artists with empathy and understanding rather than judgment.
On her X account, she wrote, “My darlings, let’s utilize wisdom & compassion as it relates to our Nigerian artists. There are very logical reasons for most things when we look not to judge, but to comprehend. That goes for every country & their artists. Let’s lift them up & continue to use wisdom.”
Minaj recently earned praise from Nigerians after speaking out against jihadist violence targeting Christians in the country during a United Nations event in New York. She emphasized the urgent need to combat terrorism and uphold the freedom of worship
