- Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has described the withdrawal of criminal defamation charges against her as a victory for the rule of law.
- The FCT High Court struck out the case after the AGF filed a notice of discontinuance.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has welcomed the Federal Government’s decision to withdraw the criminal defamation charges earlier filed against her, describing the move as a validation of her stance.
Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, January 14, after the FCT High Court struck out the case, the senator said the outcome reaffirmed her faith in the rule of law and democratic principles.
“Today’s outcome affirms my belief in the rule of law. I remain committed to serving my constituents and defending the democratic rights of all Nigerians,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said.
She thanked her legal team, constituents, and supporters for standing by her throughout the legal battle.
The case was struck out after the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) filed a notice of discontinuance, effectively ending the proceedings.
The charges, which generated public debate around freedom of expression and political accountability, were linked to comments allegedly made by the senator during a televised interview.
The notice of discontinuance, dated December 12, 2025, brought suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025 to a close.
Delivering his ruling, Justice C. N. Oji acknowledged the withdrawal and struck out the charges, noting that the decision highlighted the need for restraint in the use of prosecutorial powers.
“The court hopes that this decision will pave the way for restraint, healing, and respect for the rule of law in our democratic process,” the judge said.
