The father of rising singer Ifunanya Nwangene, widely known as Nanyah, has broken his silence following her tragic death caused by a snakebite.
In a heartfelt interview, he recounted her final moments and the heartbreaking words she spoke to him shortly before passing.
The 26-year-old singer reportedly suffered the snakebite while asleep at her home. She was rushed to several hospitals in an attempt to save her life, but despite medical efforts, she sadly did not survive.
Her sudden passing has triggered an outpouring of grief online, with many Nigerians expressing sorrow and raising concerns about emergency medical care.
Speaking to BBC Igbo, Nanyah’s father, Christopher Nwangene, detailed how the tragic events unfolded.
He explained that his daughter called him around 9:15 a.m., informing him of the snakebite, leaving him in shock. He immediately asked about her location and the advice from medical staff.
According to Christopher, Nanyah first went to a hospital that reportedly did not have anti-venom available. She then tried a second facility but received the same response.
It was only after a recommendation to visit the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) that she went there, traveling in an Uber. At FMC, she was reportedly assured that anti-venom was available.
Christopher said he quickly called his brother to go to the hospital. When he arrived, Nanyah was reportedly sitting with a drip attached to her hand.
The father stayed in constant contact with her via phone. During one of the final calls, Nanyah is said to have whispered, “Daddy, I cannot breathe.”
When he asked what was happening, she simply replied, “I don’t know.” Those were the last words he heard from his daughter before she passed away.
