Nigerian pastor Philip Olubakin has stirred online discussion with his opinions on marriage, household duties, and financial independence.

In a post that has gone viral on social media, Olubakin revealed that he has not washed his own clothes in over ten years, relying instead on professional laundry services since his time in law school.

He emphasized that domestic chores should not hinder a woman’s career ambitions or intellectual growth.

“I can’t even remember the last time I washed my clothes. When I got to law school, I was already using laundry services. Throughout my service year and for the past 12 years, I haven’t done it myself,” Olubakin shared.

He added that his wife has never been expected to wash his clothes either, as he prefers to delegate such tasks.

The pastor also highlighted the importance of financial self-reliance in marriage, particularly for women. He recounted a situation where he needed funds urgently and requested ₦1 million from his wife to provide as a seed gift to a respected man of God in the hospital.

“I want a wife who can lend me a million when needed. That’s what I call a kingdom marriage,” he said.

Olubakin advised women to secure their own financial stability, warning that total dependence on a partner could limit autonomy in decision-making within a relationship.

His statements have drawn mixed reactions online, with some praising his promotion of financial independence and others questioning his approach to domestic roles.
