Veteran Nollywood actress Eucharia Anunobi has opened up about the difficult experiences she faced with her father before achieving fame.
Speaking during an emotional podcast interview, the actress revealed that her father strongly opposed her education and ambitions because he believed educating a girl was unnecessary since she would eventually get married.
According to her, despite being financially comfortable, her father stopped supporting her education and eventually cut ties with her after she refused to follow the career path he had chosen for her.
Anunobi explained that she turned to modelling as a way to fund her education and continue her studies.
She also recalled a painful period when her father locked her in her room for six months because she refused to fill out employment forms for an office job he wanted her to take.
“He passed the forms under the door after locking me inside and insisted I fill them,” she said, adding that she stood her ground and refused to sign them.
The actress said her father unofficially disowned her and strongly disapproved of her acting career. Because of this, she often had to sneak out of the house and sometimes jump the fence just to attend auditions.
Her relationship with her father, however, began to improve after she won her first award in London for the film Glamour Girls.
According to Anunobi, when she returned home and presented the award to her father, he eventually blessed her, marking a turning point in their relationship.
