A Nigerian mother has gone viral after recounting a remarkable childbirth experience that has sparked conversations across social media.
She revealed that she gave birth vaginally to a 6kg baby after about 10 hours of labour, even though she had already been scheduled for a caesarean section the next day.
The account, which began circulating online on Tuesday, has been widely described as unusual due to the baby’s exceptionally high birth weight and the fact that the delivery reportedly happened without any tearing.
“My 6kg baby successfully delivered through vaginal delivery after 10 hours labour, I was booked for c section the following day but my baby arrived safely this night without any single tear,” she said.
Medical commentators note that babies of such weight are rarely delivered naturally, as doctors often recommend surgery to avoid possible complications for both mother and child.
In past instances, similar rare cases have been recorded, including a 2019 situation in Lagos where a woman delivered a 5.8kg baby via caesarean section after a long labour period.
Health professionals continue to stress the importance of consistent antenatal care and close medical supervision, especially in pregnancies where high birth weight is expected.
She further expressed her surprise at the outcome, saying she never anticipated a natural delivery after being prepared for surgery. “I didn’t expect it to happen naturally, especially after doctors already booked me for surgery. Everything just changed that night and my baby came safely. Don’t hold back your congratulations… you’re next,” she added.
