Music Executive Don Jazzy Reveals Artists He Regrets Not Signing

Renowned music executive and Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy, has reflected on his career, revealing some of the biggest missed opportunities when it comes to signing talented artists.

In a recent chat, the influential producer shared that he regrets not bringing singers Simi and Teni under his label, despite admiring their talent and work ethic.

“I like Simi. I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni. I wish I did,” he admitted.

Don Jazzy also disclosed that he had the chance to sign Davido earlier in his career but decided against it, believing the young artist was already on the path to greatness.

“I had the opportunity for Davido, obviously, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine,” he said.

Speaking on his experience with Falz, the Mavin boss revealed that they almost struck a deal at one point, but it fell through before it could be finalized. As for Wizkid, Don Jazzy explained that the star was already signed to Banky W’s label at the time, which ruled out any chance of working with him.

Reflecting on the realities of the music industry, Don Jazzy noted:
“You can’t sign everybody, no matter how talented they are.”

Despite the missed opportunities, Don Jazzy remains one of the most respected figures in Nigerian music, having nurtured the careers of numerous successful artists under his Mavin Records label.
