In other news….. Nigerian Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Ugwu, has criticized Nigerians who repackage or convert older iPhone XR models to appear as the newly released iPhone 17 Pro Max.

According to the cleric, the act reflects a deeper issue what he described as an “untreated disease” known as poverty mentality.

Recently, several Nigerians have reportedly purchased iPhone XR devices that have been altered to look like the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max, just to create the impression of wealth and status.

In a post shared online, Fr. Ugwu condemned the trend, writing:

“It’s a lack of contentment and a sign of an untreated poverty mentality. The desperation to impress others pushes some people to buy iPhone XRs disguised as iPhone 17 Pro Max, just to look wealthy.

You don’t need to own an iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apart from taking mirror selfies or showing it off, what’s really special about it? That in itself is childish.

People need to free themselves from this sickness of constantly trying to prove something to others. After flaunting the phone online, what next? Will it add years to your life?”

The priest’s message has since sparked conversations on social media about materialism and the growing obsession with luxury gadgets in Nigeria.
