Incoming reports suggests that pressure is being mounted on members of the US electoral college to select someone other than Donald Trump with the ongoing efforts dramatically making some to waver.
However, the move is yet to yield little evidence that Trump will fall short when electors convene in most state capitals on Monday to cast their votes.
Pressure is one the high after actors like Martin Sheen (Charlie Sheen’s father), Debra Messing who were joined by a host of other celebrities – including musician Moby – asked Republican electors not to cast their vote for President-elect Trump on 19 December.
The groups of celebrities are of the opinion that Trump is not fit to be president of the United States; therefore members of the Electoral College should block his entry to the White House.
In a YouTube video Sheen said:
“Our founding fathers built the Electoral College to safeguard the American people from the dangers of a demagogue and to ensure that the presidency only goes to someone who is, to an eminent degree, endowed with the requisite qualifications”.
The Electoral College is made up of 538 electors who cast votes to decide the President and Vice-President of the United States.
If these faithless electors decide to not vote for Trump and neither he nor Hillary Clinton receive 270 votes, the vote would then go to Congress, which would get to decide who becomes president.
