A Nigerian man identified as @JamesLantern2 on X (formerly Twitter) has gone viral after sharing his frustrating experience with a friend’s guest who overstayed his welcome and showed little to no courtesy throughout his stay.
In a series of posts, James explained that a friend had pleaded with him last month to accommodate someone temporarily, citing limited space at his own residence. The arrangement was supposed to last just one week while the visitor — a man from Port Harcourt — was in town for a two-week business trip.
However, things quickly became uncomfortable for James. According to him, the guest arrived in early July and, by the end of the month, had yet to leave. While James said he wasn’t initially bothered by the extended stay, he became increasingly disturbed by the guest’s behavior — or lack of it.
“This guy from PH is in my guest room and never greets or speaks to me,” he wrote. “Even when my friend is around, they discuss by themselves. He doesn’t speak or acknowledge my presence or contributions.”
Despite providing full hospitality, including Wi-Fi, Netflix, laundry services, and a private room, James said the guest remained completely aloof and showed no gratitude or manners. He noted that even in the mornings, the man wouldn’t say a word to him.
Feeling disrespected and uncomfortable in his own home, James eventually asked his friend to come and take the guest elsewhere, insisting he couldn’t continue hosting someone who didn’t show basic decency.
“I honestly think this is such an uncultured person who doesn’t know how to behave towards their host,” James stated, adding that the guest could continue his business in a hotel if necessary.
His friend reportedly tried to intervene, asking James to reconsider and promising to talk to the guest. But James stood his ground, saying he no longer had the time or patience to entertain the matter.
