“Lives Are Being Taken for Granted” – AY Blasts Government After Fatal Accident Involving Anthony Joshua

Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Ayo Makun (AY) has voiced strong criticism of the Nigerian government following the tragic car accident involving boxing champion Anthony Joshua on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The crash, which occurred on Monday, claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s associates when their Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck. While Joshua survived with minor injuries, AY expressed deep frustration over the state of the nation’s infrastructure.

In a heartfelt post on Instagram, AY highlighted the irony of a national hero returning home only to be met with tragedy due to systemic negligence.

“I am saddened that a Nigerian who has carried our flag with pride across the world returned home only for two of his closest associates to be met by death on our roads. Lives are being taken for granted in Nigeria. This shows failure from road safety systems, infrastructure, and leadership.”

A Call for Sacredness of Life

The actor questioned the recurring nature of these accidents and demanded a shift in how the government prioritizes the safety of its citizens.

“How many are going to die before our roads are made safe? A country that can’t protect its people is a country in urgent need of accountability. We need safer roads, proper enforcement, effective emergency response systems, and a government that treats human life as sacred.”

Sympathy for the Families

Beyond the criticism, AY extended his condolences to the world heavyweight boxer and the families of the victims who perished in the Makun area of Ogun State.

“My heart is heavy for Anthony Joshua and my prayers are with the families of the departed and everyone grieving the loss.”
