A politician in Lagos, currently campaigning for a position in an upcoming local government election, has come under scrutiny after allegedly offering residents packs of garri and groundnut in exchange for their support.

A video posted on TikTok by user @victorpatrick63 captured the moment a recipient reacted to the food items, which were branded with the politician’s name. The resident, clearly taken aback, commented in disbelief: “Just imagine what they’re using to bribe us to vote. God, this is garri o.”

He continued, “To get our votes, they’re sharing garri. There’s even one groundnut inside. What’s this country turning into?”

The clip has since gone viral, drawing widespread criticism from Nigerians online. Many expressed frustration over the state of the nation’s politics and the tactics used by some candidates to win favor among the electorate.
