Kano Govt funds 1001 postgraduates on international scholarships

A total of 1001 postgraduate students are being sponsored by the government of Kano State to pursue various postgraduate degrees in India and Uganda.

This was disclosed by the governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the flag-off ceremony for the start of the scholarship program on Thursday night at Government House in Kano.

He claimed that 550 students will start the foreign scholarship program.

Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, the former governor of the state, introduced the foreign scholarship program, according to Yusuf, who claimed it has had a significant positive impact on both Kano state and the rest of the country.

It is evident that some of the people trained under Kwankwaso’s program are now holding significant positions of authority within the current administration.”

The Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, and the Statistician General of the State, Prof. Aliyu Isa AliyuA few others include Dr. Bashir Muzakkir, the Special Advisor on Innovation.

“Let me say that our mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration, was responsible for starting the foreign scholarship program.

The Honorable Senator sponsored three groups of students to study abroad in about 16 different nations.

“This one-of-a-kind effort by his administration has produced many professionals and PhD holders, thousands of masters degree holders, thousands of professionals in the medical sciences, engineering, natural sciences, pilots, maritime specialists, etc.

“The administration of His Excellency Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s practical effort has been a significant motivator for our administration to continue with this highly beneficial and well-liked policy of international scholarship.

“In this regard, I’m pleased to report that some of the beneficiaries of this policy are currently holding significant positions of authority in the current administration.

“Last but not least, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to announce the resumption of Kano State’s foreign scholarship program and the sponsorship of the first group of 550 scholars out of the 1001 who will pursue postgraduate studies abroad. Yusuf stated.

Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso praised the state government’s efforts for continuing down the same path earlier in his statement.

He counseled program participants to make sure they live up to their expectations and contribute to their families, friends, and the nation at large.

At the event, Governor Yusuf gave his scholarship offers and travel documents to the first batch of 550 students who are scheduled to leave the country on Friday morning.
