The Kaduna State Police Command has advised supporters of former presidential candidate Peter Obi to suspend a planned birthday rally, citing credible intelligence of possible security threats.

In a statement on Friday, police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan warned that criminal elements could hijack the event to incite violence. He also noted that political gatherings remain suspended in the state until INEC officially lifts restrictions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The police added that several parties had scheduled internal primaries on the same day, with proper security notification, unlike the planned Obi rally. Authorities fear the overlap could escalate tensions.

The Command urged organisers to honour Obi in non-disruptive ways and warned that legal action would be taken against violators.
