- Peter Obi, former Labour Party presidential candidate, and Atiku Abubakar, from the Peoples Democratic Party, have formed a political alliance.

Nigerian Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has publicly criticized former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his recent political alignment with Atiku Abubakar.
Obi and Atiku, who previously belonged to the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively, have now joined forces under the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—a surprising political shift that marks one of Nigeria’s most notable realignments since the return to civilian rule in 1999, according to a report by the BBC.
The newly formed alliance has reportedly attracted support from influential figures within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), led by President Bola Tinubu. Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election with just 37% of the total vote, while Atiku and Obi garnered 29% and 25% respectively, reflecting a fragmented opposition.
Obi’s decision to part ways with the PDP in the past was due to Atiku’s emergence as the party’s presidential flag bearer. Now, their renewed alliance under the ADC has sparked criticism from several quarters.
During a recent Instagram Live session, Seun Kuti voiced strong disapproval of the move, alleging that Obi’s collaboration with Atiku was simply a strategy to manipulate the masses for their political gain.
He also mocked the once-vocal supporters of Obi popularly known as the “Obidients”—claiming their influence had significantly faded since the election period.
“Now that Peter Obi has gone back home to Atiku, I don’t need to mention anything about Obidients anymore,” he said.
