- Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) has called for a political resolution to the legal case involving IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, following Kanu’s recent conviction by the Federal High Court.
- Kalu stated that he has been engaging with the Federal Government on the matter and plans to contact the Attorney General to advise the President.
- He also lamented the immense suffering, job losses, and deaths of Igbo people caused by IPOB’s activities in the South-East, recalling the pressure he previously put on President Buhari to secure Kanu’s release in 2017.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (Abia North) has called for a political resolution to the ongoing legal dispute between the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and the Federal Government.
Kalu made the appeal during an interview on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, shortly after the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Kanu on terrorism-related offenses.
The lawmaker confirmed his engagement with the Federal Government over the IPOB leader’s case:
“The problem of Nnamdi Kanu is what we need to solve via a political process. I have been working with the Federal Government of Nigeria on how to solve this issue, and nobody should question the decision of Justice Omotosho,” he added.
While acknowledging that Kanu’s legal team plans to appeal the Federal High Court ruling, the former Abia State governor stated he would contact the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, to advise the President on the matter.
Senator Kalu lamented the toll IPOB’s activities have taken on the South-East, noting the killing of many Igbo people and the widespread loss of livelihoods.
He also recalled his previous efforts to secure Kanu’s freedom:
“I know the pressure I personally put on President Buhari before he was released in April 2017. Nobody is talking about the Igbo who were killed,” he added, acknowledging the assistance of Mamman Daura and then-Attorney General Abubakar Malami in that 2017 release.
