Nollywood icon Bob-Manuel Udokwu recently opened up about the impact his fame had on his children’s school experiences, revealing that his daughter was once bullied at Queens College, Lagos simply because of her father’s celebrity status.
Speaking on the With Chude podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo on YouTube, Udokwu shared that senior students would single out his daughter when she was in Junior Secondary School 1. He recalled that the experience left a strong impression on her, although she now looks back on it with humor.
To protect his children from undue attention, Udokwu made a conscious effort to maintain a low profile around their schools. He also insisted that they attend public schools, following the path he himself took, believing that such an environment would foster independence and resilience.
Reflecting on his own education, Udokwu recounted attending St. Peter’s Primary School in Enugu, Oruku Grammar School, and the University of Port Harcourt, all public institutions. He noted that his parents prioritized academic performance above all else, a principle he wanted to pass on to his own children.
Udokwu clarified that choosing public schools was not a rejection of private education but a way to allow his children to grow up outside the constant spotlight of his fame. He believes that navigating life in public schools helped shape them into responsible and self-reliant adults.
Widely admired for his performances in Nollywood classics since the 1990s, Bob-Manuel Udokwu highlighted that celebrity can sometimes create unexpected challenges for family life.
