Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has crossed the 200-million-stream mark on Spotify across all her works.
Behind that achievement is a story of sacrifice and faith, shared recently by her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa.
He recalled that when Mercy won Nigerian Idol in 2012, she had every chance to pursue mainstream success. “The stage, the spotlight, and the opportunities were right there,” he noted. “But she made a bold decision, choosing gospel music.”
Pastor Blessed explained that the choice came with a cost, as Mercy faced four years in which her career appeared stalled. “To many, it looked like a delay,” he said. “But it wasn’t wasted. Today, we see the reward of that obedience.”
Quoting scripture, he added: “Don’t get tired of doing good, at the right time you’ll reap a harvest if you don’t give up” (Galatians 6:9).
He further shared that Mercy’s new album, In His Will, reflects her journey and her decision to put purpose before popularity.
