Popular Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham recently spoke about how her public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu during the last election impacted both her personal life and her career.
The actress shared her thoughts while giving advice to fellow actor Timini Egbuson on strategies to boost his film’s box office success.
“My main advice to you is simple: stay away from politics. Don’t declare support for anyone publicly. Just focus on your work and remain neutral,” she told Timini.
When reminded of her own vocal support for Tinubu, Toyin replied, “That was then,” acknowledging that her political position had consequences on her career. “Haaaaaaa, it definitely affected me,” she admitted.
Earlier reports suggested that in early 2024, Toyin expressed frustration after her film Ijakumo (Born-Again Stripper) reportedly suffered from widespread WhatsApp sharing, which she claimed contributed to disappointing box office numbers.
Reflecting on the backlash, she questioned, “Why is it considered wrong when I choose my candidate, but it’s acceptable for others?” Her comments highlighted the online criticism and boycott threats she faced due to her political stance.
After sharing the conversation online, Timini added:
