In related news… As the scandal surrounding Pastor Chris Okafor deepens, a woman identified as Agnes Bessem Okafor, claiming to be his former wife, has released a scathing public statement.
Her allegations arrive amidst a high-profile legal battle between the cleric and Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, who recently served him a ₦1 billion lawsuit over an alleged botched marriage promise.
Agnes alleged that she married the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry when she was just 18 years old. She claimed the union was formal and witnessed by individuals who are still alive today to testify to its legitimacy.
The most shocking claim in her statement involves the discovery of a hidden marriage certificate shortly after their wedding, which suggested the pastor had been previously married.
“After the wedding, I discovered under the bed a wedding certificate which revealed that he was once married. I cried. I asked him, he denied. The marriage certificate is still available. You’ll go to jail for that. You lied to me, married me and kept me in your house just to be a baby-making machine.”
Agnes, a mother of four, described herself as an “innocent prime” youth when the pastor married her. She accused him of emotional manipulation and attempting to erase her and their children from his public life an act she described as a “shame to the body of Christ.”
“This man took me in my prime, in my youth, as a wife, not as a side chick… They are ashamed of the things he comes out to say about his own children. It is a shame to the body of Christ.”
Clarifying that she was the one who ended the marriage, Agnes stated that she could no longer tolerate the “disgrace” she alleged the cleric brought to his ministry over several years.
“If I left this man, I left him because I could not match and operate in his own ways… I left you because of the shame and disgrace you brought to the body of Christ for so many years.”
Despite the mounting accusations, Pastor Okafor recently issued a public apology to his congregation, though critics dismiss it as a tactic to “gain public sympathy” rather than a genuine act of repentance.
